THANK YOU for joining the fight to get Mikaela the medicine she needs to live beyond 25. I want to specifically thank the Abigail Alliance for Better Access to Developmental Drugs for teaching me the best approach to winning this battle. We’re going to get this done, and I wanted to send you the gameplan and ask for some assistance from you.
First, an update: We received an initial rejection from Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS), so we’re expanding the petition to include Merck & Genentech as well because they both have similar drugs of their own.
We need your help. Our next step is to request compassionate use access from Merck & Genentech, but we need contact information for the Oncology Director, VPs, and CEO at Merck & Genentech. It’d also be great to have the same information for our continued fight with BMS. I have email addresses for some, but I’d love to have phone & email for each. [Update: After posting this, my contact at change.org was able to send me the email addresses for all of the people mentioned — thanks Tim! Let’s focus our efforts on direct phone numbers so that they can’t shrug us aside!] If you have sleuthing skills and can find contact info for any of the following ASAP, you’ll be playing a key role:
Michael Giordano, Senior Vice President Head of Oncology and Immunosciences Development
David Berman, Executive Director, Oncology
Andrew Coop, Vice President, Oncology Medical
Fouad Namouni, Vice President, Full Development Lead, Oncology
Richard H. Scheller, Ph.D., Executive Vice President, Research & Early Development
Susan Griffing, Sr. Director, Head of Oncology Global Operations
Patricia Moore, VP of Clinical Operations, Research and Early Development
Second help request: In tandem with this effort, we are starting a massive media push this week to put pressure on the companies in case we receive 2 more rejections. We’ve already scheduled a feature for a local news station here in Sacramento, and it will be important that you all help us distribute that content via social media so that nationwide networks will take notice. I’m going to post that here in the news section of the petition, on the She Got This blog, my Twitter feed, and on the Facebook page I just set up — keep an eye out for my post this weekend. If you have any media contacts that might be interested in this story, please email me ASAP at email@example.com.
Mikaela’s been having a rough week in the ICU getting her pain under control, but I read some of the comments on this petition to her and they’re infusing her spirit with a great deal of hope. Many helping one – humans at our finest. I hope this campaign is helping you to appreciate your life and loved ones a bit more, and I’m so proud of you for stepping up to help someone on this pale blue dot.
Now let’s get those contacts!
With Love & Admiration,
